Kundura Sahne

With its striking architecture, technical infrastructure and event program, Kundura Sahne is one of Istanbul’s most popular performance venues.

Launched in 2018, Kundura Sahne brings audiences together with creative projects and artists from Türkiye and around the world, in addition to Beykoz Kundura’s own productions.

In its program, developed from Kundura Hafıza’s oral history narratives, Kundura Sahne values an inquiry into the relationship between space and the body, shaped by its nature as a transformed space that also carries the memory of the factory. Curated by Beykoz Kundura’s Artistic Director S. Buse Yıldırım, the event program focuses on documentary theater, giving priority to performances and plays developed from oral history and influenced by biographical drama.

Programming work focused on dance and documentary theater in the field of performance, Kundura Sahne also hosts a wide range of musical experiences and projects in the field of music.

Kundura Sahne, which likes to step outside traditional forms and norms, also develops partnerships with creative artists and groups from stages around the world, such as Stefan Kaegi, Rimini Protokoll, Manuela Infante, Rabih Mroué, Sofia Dias, Vítor Roriz, Silke Huysmans and Hannes Dereere.

It also develops projects that aim to open up space for creative artistic practice, turn it into an experience and encourage artists to do research, with the goal of rediscovering the performative elements of the sense of belonging carried by the factory’s former employees and of their everyday lives.
