Exhibition

Opened in June 2021, the exhibition titled Kundura’s Memory: The World in a Factory offers a different perspective on the production history of the Sümerbank Beykoz Leather and Shoe Factory, one of the cornerstones of Turkey’s industrialization history.

Visiting hours

Saturday and Sunday

12:00–19:00

The exhibition, which can be visited free of charge throughout the year and is continuously updated, brings together machinery, photographs, documents, and numerous objects donated by former employees and their families, as well as oral history interviews conducted since 2015.

Located in the Carpentry Shop building, where wooden equipment was produced during the factory period, the exhibition goes beyond being a production facility that operated until 1999. It examines the factory as a meeting place where multiple connections were established and aims to diversify information about the period, share local wisdom, and produce future-oriented models and collaborations.

Kundura’s Memory: The World in a Factory is a starting point that suggests viewing the exhibition not merely as the “final product” of archival work, but as a potential tool capable of generating alternative knowledge about the facility and its archives. Inspired by the spiritual bond between the workers and the factory, the exhibition narrative focuses on the organic connection between Kundura’s production history and the social relationships within the facility, rather than treating them as separate entities.
