Kundura Cinema offers an extraordinary viewing experience with the original industrial architecture of the building, which was converted from the boiler room of the Sümerbank Leather and Shoe Factory. Launched in 2018, Kundura Cinema is a unique alternative for the city’s cinema culture, with its program of films of high artistic and aesthetic value and its venue design that carries the textures of history.

Kundura Classics: The Golden Age of Monsters

Kundura Cinema, which has earned a privileged place on the city’s cultural map with its repertory cinema approach, also plays a pioneering role in the industry with its programs of restored classics and silent films accompanied by live music.

Kundura Cinema’s programs, which offer an approach based on dialogue with its audience regardless of film genre or geography, are curated by S. Buse Yıldırım, Artistic Director of Beykoz Kundura, with the support of program advisors.

The Documentary Film Series invites viewers to reflect on how boundaries can shift when real-life stories are told through film. Open-air screenings, thematic selections, and retrospective programs held during A Midsummer’s Night Festival

in the summer months are supported by discussions, film analyses, and workshops.

Kundura Cinema, based on the industrial heritage identity of Beykoz Kundura, always remembers the place of cinema in cultural heritage and combines the industrial heritage atmosphere of the venue with the cinema experience in its special screenings ranging from silent films to classics.

Considering that Beykoz Kundura is one of Istanbul's leading film studios, Kundura Cinema has become a meeting place where films are not only produced but also screened, discussed, and debated with audiences.

Inspired by the film screenings that were part of daily life during the Sümerbank Leather and Shoe Factory era and were held with the participation of the Beykoz community, Kundura Cinema opened on October 27, 2018, with celebrations for UNESCO World Day for Audiovisual Heritage.

The Kundura Cinema, which was known as the Russian Oven during the factory period, has been restored to its current state while preserving the original structure of the historic oven.

The location of the oven now serves as a foyer and dining area, the area previously used as a warehouse now functions as a cinema hall.

Equipped with state-of-the-art equipment such as Christie brand digital cinema projection, Perlux® HiWhite cinema screen, and Luis Wassman sound system, the hall has a seating capacity of 140 and offers a hygienic and safe viewing environment to the audience with certified ventilation systems that operate with 100% clean air and do not contain a mixing cell.
