Workshops
Drawing on the Kundura Hafıza archive, the children’s and adult workshops aim to build connections with the past, present and future of the Sümerbank Leather and Shoe Factory, one of the country’s most important examples of industrial heritage.
The workshops are inspired by the exhibition Kundura’s Memory: A World Fit into a Factory and by the Kundura Hafıza archive.
We invite everyone to explore different themes and concepts within the interdisciplinary field that forms part of Kundura Hafıza’s multilayered structure, and to take part in workshops prepared with original content. By focusing on production and creativity, we aim for participants from all walks of life to carry this dialogue forward.
Cultural Heritage at My School
The aim of the Cultural Heritage at My School Program is to raise awareness and understanding of cultural heritage so that the local, traditional and national values of societies, which together form the shared identity of the world, are protected, sustained and passed on to future generations.
Within the scope of the program, cultural heritage training is given to teachers who are in constant contact with students, helping to build awareness of cultural heritage in curriculum lessons. In this way, the subject of cultural heritage can be integrated into core curriculum subjects such as Turkish, history, social studies, visual arts and music.
By including the concept of cultural heritage in the content of these lessons, in-class adaptations can also be developed to help students understand and embrace cultural assets.
Who can take part in the program?
Teachers who are in direct contact with students.
What does the program cover?
The program discusses the historical background of the concept of cultural heritage, examples of tangible, intangible and natural heritage, national and international institutions, collaborations that schools can establish, and activities on cultural heritage that can be added to curriculum lessons.
What do participants learn in the program?
In the program, teachers learn about the history of the concept of cultural heritage, national and international institutions and organizations, ongoing current work, and how they can inform students on these subjects. They are also shown what kinds of cultural heritage activities they can have their students do, and the methods they should pay attention to on school trips in order to build awareness on this subject.
What is the outcome of the program?
Participants who complete the program receive a Certificate of Participation from the Kundura Hafıza Cultural Heritage Preservation Association.
Corporate Workshops and Training
Within this program, designed with Beykoz Kundura’s history and memory as its starting point, we tailor workshops focusing on specific themes to the wishes and needs of institutions.
From amateur archiving to analog photography and film or leather workshops... At Beykoz Kundura, learning is not limited to children.
In the archiving workshop, drawing on Kundura Hafıza’s experience and expertise, you can learn the finer points of the craft by working through a real archive and take the first steps toward building your own archive.
In the analog film and photography workshop, you can get hands-on experience in Kundura Hafıza’s darkroom with the techniques that masters of the craft still swear by.
Considering that Beykoz Kundura was a 200-year-old leather factory, could there be a more ideal place for a workshop where you learn to work this material and design your own leather goods?
