Filiz Sızanlı and Mustafa Kaplan, the dancers of Taldans, bring their dance project ANDAN DAHA KISA back to audiences for the first time in four years on the evening of February 3 at Kundura Sahne.

Created by Filiz Sızanlı and Mustafa Kaplan, pioneers of contemporary dance in Türkiye and founders of Taldans, the dance project ANDAN DAHA KISA draws inspiration from the serialist movement in music.

Known to us for works such as “Dolap”, “Sek Sek”, “Dokuman”, “Solum”, “Graf” and, most recently, “Never Odd Or Even”, which had its Türkiye premiere at Kundura Sahne last year, the duo this time subjects its choreographic research, carried out using mathematical scores, sequences and repetitions, to the distinctive dynamics of the serialist movement.

Andan Daha Kısa – Taldans

In ANDAN DAHA KISA, the systematics of patterns such as modulation, accumulation and repetition echo across the familiar landscape of the fairy tale ‘’Little Red Riding Hood’’. Unlike in the tale, every character, place and situation is realigned without taking precedence over one another and without forming a hierarchical relationship with one another.

Andan Daha Kısa – Taldans

Seeking through their choreographies to understand the mathematics of nature and emotions by way of series and sequences, the duo this time turns its questions toward serialism, which they take as their source of inspiration:

Where can the sequences that serialism creates using qualities such as tone, rhythm and timbre carry images of the body and movement?

How does serialism’s approach, as reflected in music, literature, architecture and art, influence a choreographic structure?

How are the systematics of structures established, and how does creation take part in this process?

How does one move from one discipline to another using sequences and series?

Can these sequences serve as a tool in the transition from dance to video, or from music to dance?

Staged in 2020 at the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality City Theaters’ Üsküdar Kerem Yılmazer Stage and also featured in the program of İKSV’s 24th Istanbul Theater Festival, the work was able to reach its audience only online during the global pandemic.

As it returns to its audience for the first time in four years at Kundura Sahne, tickets for ANDAN DAHA KISA are available here.
