A SHORT BREAK FROM QUARANTINE WITH KUNDURA SİNEMA
In his short documentary Nature: All Rights Reserved (2016), young Dutch director Sebastian Mulder prompts viewers to question the place nature holds in urban life through the simulations of nature in our everyday lives. How do we interact with nature in city life? Through the forest pictures we see while staring at the ceiling in the dentist’s office, and the artificial trees we so often come across in shopping malls? Nature: All Rights Reserved offers us 20 minutes in which to reflect on all of this. But Mulder does not stop his questioning there. In the film’s final section, ‘Future Nature,’ he reminds us that although we can currently tell that images of nature are artificial, virtual reality technologies are advancing day by day. And so one cannot help but ask: will people one day have artificial pets, as in Blade Runner (1982)?
