Once upon a time, storytellers would travel from city to city, from village to village; sometimes gathering with people under a mighty tree, sometimes in a marketplace, and sometimes around a fire, sharing the tales and stories they carried with them. In these special moments, the rush of everyday life would quiet down for a while; people would come together in the extraordinary world of tales and dream collectively.
In Anatolia’s ancient oral culture, tales, just like seeds, folk songs, food, and handicrafts, are a form of cultural heritage passed down from generation to generation. Tales in Their Place sets up its storytelling stage this year to recall the storytelling tradition that has lived in these lands for centuries.
As part of “The Week of Domestic Goods and Investment” organized by Beykoz Kundura for the fifth time this year, we revive the unifying power of oral tradition. We gather around the fire in the market area to be set up in Kundura’s garden, coming together in the warmth of tales, community, and sharing. Everyone, from children to adults, is welcome.
