An Evening at Beykoz Kundura Concert Series - Payam Ghasemi Quintet

Sinafi Trio was formed when three Greek women found one another in Türkiye. Their paths having crossed in Istanbul, the three musicians listened to the local music and its stories, tuning in to the musical richness of this region and to the delicate, intricate structure of its music. Traveling across the entire cultural geography of the Mediterranean, they perform everything from teke folk songs to laments, and from rebetiko and urban music to café aman, offering a multilingual repertoire in Turkish, Armenian, Greek, Spanish, Kurdish and other languages.

Delivering a performance that moves freely from one language to another—at times exuberant, at times melancholic—Sinafi Trio quickly gained a following in Türkiye. Having performed at the 2017 Serres World Music Festival, for the İzmir Metropolitan Municipality in 2018, at the 2019 İzmir Aya Vukla Culture Days, the 2019 Errichetta Festival in Rome, the 2019 Fengaros Festival in Cyprus and at music seminars in Cyprus in 2018–2019, the group released its first album, İHO, on Kalan Müzik and is now preparing its second album, which will be made up of deyiş (traditional devotional folk songs).

Reinterpreting Anatolia’s millennia-old musical heritage from a contemporary perspective, Coşkun Karademir invites listeners on an intercultural musical journey with his Folk’n’Jazz project. The melodic and emotional depth of folk music takes on a new form as it shares the stage with the free, improvisation-based structure of jazz.

In this special project, Karademir is joined by Selen Gülün, one of the leading pianists on the international jazz scene, and drummer Robert Mehmet İkiz, who holds a strong place in the global jazz world. The shared language of the three musicians builds a balanced and vibrant musical narrative between the traditional and the contemporary.
