KunduraLab

A platform that aims to create opportunities for discussion and production across different disciplines.

A platform for creative thinking and art that opens up a space of experience where stage and cinema practices encounter different methods and perspectives. It offers a field of work where these differences sometimes intertwine and sometimes merge into entirely new wholes.

KunduraLab, Beykoz Kundura’s art-focused laboratory for ideas and production, was launched in 2021 to create opportunities for discussion and production across different disciplines, from performance to documentary film and theater, and from philosophy to anthropology. KunduraLab continues to expand its scope with DocLab, a project and capacity development platform for documentary film and documentary theater directors; FelsefeLab, which invites participants to understand and read concepts through philosophical methods; and PerformLab, an interdisciplinary and international concept and practice development program in the field of performance.

Kundura DocLab

An international art laboratory dedicated to developing creative projects in the documentary form.

Kundura DocLab, where different methodologies and perspectives intertwine and where we experiment with ideas and creative elements, is a project and capacity development program that invites artists to explore the boundaries of documentary art.

First held at Beykoz Kundura in May 2023, the program brings together documentary film and theater directors from Türkiye and neighboring countries in Istanbul. In addition to strengthening creative research processes, Kundura DocLab brings theater and film practices together, offering an exploratory process focused on artistic collaboration and the development of methods. With the aim of discovering innovative approaches to documentary storytelling and building a bridge between the two disciplines, it takes an in-depth look at their shared elements, common creative processes and the dynamics of storytelling.

FelsefeLab

It invites participants to reflect on and discuss together topics chosen in light of Beykoz Kundura’s cultural content, and aims to clarify ambiguous ideas through philosophical methods.

Taking Beykoz Kundura’s curatorial programs as its starting point, FelsefeLab invites participants to understand and read concepts through philosophical methods; it was launched in January 2021.

Held both online and in person under the guidance of Dr. Umut Eldem, FelsefeLab offers opportunities for discussion and discovery with a program shaped around intriguing topics ranging from artificial intelligence to science fiction cinema.
