January film programme that centers around the “suspense” theme will take audiences to the darkest corners of the Cold War era and will shed light on one of the most important times of the history.

Ernst Lubitsch’s Ninotchka produced in 1939; Billy Wilder’s One, Two, Three produced in 1961, Jaak Kilmi and Gints Grūbe’s documentary film My Father, The Spy filmed in 2019 will light the way to the Cold War era. February film selection will continue to arouse curiosity with new films added to the programme.

“Suspense” Theme: The Newest Films of the January Film Programme

Ernst Lubitsch’s Ninotchka produced in 1939 revolves around the story of a no-nonsense diplomat of the Soviet Union named Nina Ivanovna’s arrival to Paris to ensure the sale of jewels seized during the Russian Revolution and carefree bachelor Count Leon d'Algout who attempts to intercept these valuables. Greta Garbo stars as Nina Ivanovna in this political satire film.

Billy Wilder’s 1961 black and white produced One, Two, Three portraits a man named C.R. MacNamara who will do anything to get a promotion within the Coca-Cola company, including looking after boss W.P. Hazeltine’s rebellious teenage daughter, Scarlett. However Scarlett’s secret will jeopardize his promotion. Billy Wilder started to film One, Two, Three in Berlin when the Wall went up which points the perfect timing of this political-themed comedy.

Jaak Kilmi and Gints Grūbe’s documentary film My Father, The Spy filmed in 2019 invites audiences to a dark spy game. Pulling back the curtain on the shady behind-the scenes world of the Cold War, this film tells a daughter's dramatic story of her double-agent father, exploring their relationship against the backdrop of events which have their roots over four decades ago. The first ever screening of the film in Turkey will be in Kundura Cinema.
