Besides serving as a filming plateau, Kundura is also hard at work in transforming the designs of the factory buildings that are classified as historical monuments. We refresh the memory of these places by listening to the stories of the previous workers of the Sümerbank factory.

MEMORY CENTER

All the old structures in Beykoz Kundura are certified as secondary degree historical buildings. The present owner of the factory, Yıldırım Holding, aims to transform and restore these buildings in a way which is congruent with their previous utility and architecture. Teams of researchers continue their archival work with utmost diligence, with also a view to various examples of industrial sites being renovated, both in Turkey and abroad. The restoration of Beykoz Kundura will promote not only tourism, but also culture and art; in this way, it is meant to expand the horizons of the people of İstanbul and Beykoz.

RESTORATION

As a first step in this project, the most precious group of structures in the factory "Kazan Dairesi" (Boiler Room), is being restored to serve as one of the most prestigious culture and art platforms of the city. The Turkish architects and technical team which leads the design work of the theater and film houses to be built in "Kazan Dairesi" are joined by the Dutch firms Theater Advies and TenBras in an advisory capacity. The goal of the diligent Kundura Architecture Team is to open Kazan Dairesi for service in 2018.
